Under bylaw 8306, fireworks are illegal in the city of Richmond. 

This includes the sale, possession, and use of any fireworks, even those typically considered “safe and sane.” The ban is in place to prevent the risk of fires, injuries, and noise disturbances, which are common concerns in densely populated areas. Violating these regulations can result in fines or other legal consequences. 

Richmond Fire-Rescue encourages residents to attend professional fireworks displays, which are safer and permitted under controlled conditions.

9.14 Fireworks Regulation

9.14.1 A person must not purchase, sell, display for the purpose of sale, offer for sale, give, dispose of or distribute fireworks to any person.
