Extremely Dry Weather and Fire Conditions

20 October 2022

The weather significantly impacts wildfires– how they start, how aggressively they spread, and how long they burn. We have had a long stretch of dry, warm weather here in Richmond, and although rain is in the forecast, we want to remind you of the dangers of the current conditions.

Richmond is currently rated between High and Extreme as per the BC Wildfire Service, and Richmond Fire-Rescue wants to remind you that extremely dry forest fuels and fire risk are very serious. New fires will start quickly, spread rapidly, and challenge fire suppression efforts.

Please take caution with cigarettes, open flames, or anything that could cause the ignition of grass, hedges, or combustible materials.
