Fireworks, Pyrotechnics & Special Effects Permits
Permit information and requirements for professional fireworks displays, pyrotechnics and special effects in Richmond.
Planning a Fireworks or Pyrotechnic Display?
Richmond Fire-Rescue reviews professional fireworks, pyrotechnic and special-effects displays to help ensure appropriate safety measures are in place before the event begins.
Fireworks displays and special effects must be conducted by appropriately licensed Fireworks Display Supervisors or Senior Pyrotechnicians. A permit application does not authorize a display — the required permit must be issued before the activity can proceed.
Submit a complete application at least 10 business days before the proposed event.
Permits are issued for professional displays on both private and City-owned property in Richmond.
Current 2026 application fee is $145.00 plus GST. Credit-card payments may be subject to an additional surcharge.
