Captain, Community Relations Officer

With a career spanning over two decades, Brian MacLeod has evolved from a firefighter to his current role as Richmond Fire-Rescue’s esteemed Community Relations Officer.

At the forefront of community safety, Brian’s role as a Community Relations Officer involves strategic planning, organizing, promoting, and directing of effective fire and life safety public education and community relations programs. He also serves as a trusted liaison, fostering strong relationships with Richmond Fire-Rescue staff, city divisions, community partners, and the community.

Brian MacLeod’s exceptional contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards. He is the proud recipient of the BCPFFA’s Public Educator of the Year award, the Fire Chief award for educational program development, the Vancouver Police Department’s Award of Merit, and the Richmond Chamber of Commerce’s Firefighter of the Year award. These accolades are a testament to his unwavering commitment and dedication to his profession and community.

Before embarking on his career with Richmond Fire-Rescue, Brian MacLeod honed his skills in the dynamic world of radio as an on-air personality. His passion for public service led him to a 4-year stint with the BC Wildfire Service, where he was a member of the helitack program. This forestry job not only provided him with invaluable education and skills but also paved the way for his successful transition to a full-time professional career with Richmond Fire-Rescue. 

After 17 years of service as a firefighter, Brian naturally took on the position of Community Relations Officer and used his experience in public speaking and media to benefit the department and our community.
